A Secure Web Gateway (SWG) is a solution that filters unwanted software/malware from user-initiated Web/Internet traffic and enforces corporate and regulatory policy compliance. To achieve this goal, SWGs must, at a minimum, include URL filtering, malicious-code detection and filtering, and application controls for popular Web-based applications, such as instant messaging (IM) and Skype. Native or integrated Data Leak Prevention (DLP) is also increasingly included.

Gartner is a leading research and advisory firm with more than 60,000 clients worldwide. The Gartner Secure Web Gateway "Magic Quadrant" evaluates SWG vendors annually against numerous criteria including the vendor's vision, product strategy, overall viability, market responsiveness and track record, and customer experience.
